, Oscar's wife Emily Plager.
Friends who came to taste of the festivities were Marsha Risafi (RN), Jim Spinello (Clark County Executive), Butch Jones (Ret. Captain TWA) Rafael & Carrie Horzasitas (Violinist & Travel Executive), Sr. Francisco Jimenez (Engineer) & Felicia Jimenez (Teacher), Michelle Gibbons and her brother Dez Serratore (El Dez Productions) Bob & Tory, Dennis Diaz, Carlos Frias, Robert & Susanna McGee. Jose Serratore (Don Juan) (Guitarist), and Mr. Donald Kemp[ (Music World). Gary & Janelda Silva.(Ret.)
The party started with Chef Oscar & Sous Chef Diana preparing the ingredients along with the help of Sous Chef Marsha. We decided to make the paella in a 31" paella pan, Sous Chef Diana prepared the pan by boiling water in the pan first then washed, dried and oiled pan.
Their guest started arriving so they lit up the Paella Burner and set the pan on the burner, added oil to pan and waited for oil to get hot, chicken was added, browned, then onions, green peppers to sauté. Next came chorizo. Tomatoes were added along with white wine. The mixture cooked as the aroma began filling the air. The guest were starting to smell it and beginning to look hungry. Rice was added along with the rich Spanish Saffron. After blending the mixture together broth was added. Oh, we forgot our scallops, well, next time. Then the mussels and claims jumped in and unpeeled shrimp laid on top. When all this came to a climax and the rice al dente, peas, asparagus, and home made roasted red peppers were added to add a touch of class.
Everyone toasted the Chef and dug into the Paella.
After everyone enjoyed the paella, the party began and the music flowed. Susanna de Toro (McGee) sang some beautiful Spanish tunes, then Felicia Jimenez sang a few American pop songs. Not to be out done Francisco Jimenez picked up the guitar and began playing his songs and singing merrily. We talked Jose Serratore into playing some flamenco, it was wonderful what was happening. Donald Kemp saw the piano sitting there not being played so he began tickling the ivories with some good old show tunes. Wow, we thought we were at the MGM show lounge. Then we got Richard Fernandez to do a few of his own songs, a few of Lionel Ritchie's, and his comic routine with the guitar. Oscar had a sore throat so we couldn't get him to do any tango's. At last a good time was had by all.
Just shows, all you need is some good wine, good friends and a Paella.
We wish you were there. Maybe next time.
